Living in a Dream

I’m in a dream, this feeling
Air surreal, visions so colorful
The weight in my chest is a cloud
The thoughts in my head move like wind
I think I’m walking on cushions and silk

Then that sting, where the ground gives way
Where the heart drops before the rest of the body

I never fell asleep
The dream is still around me, for the nightmare it is
Every could filled with smoke, raining ash in the air
Cracks shifting the foundations
Chest heaving, head pounding
There is no waking up from this

Abra, the Psi Pokémon

hand-drawn artwork

It is said humans live a third of their lives asleep and unconscious; Abra, on the other hand, spend three quarters of their lives in slumber. This species is unconscious for around eighteen hours a day, and it is barely active when it is awake for the other six hours of the day. Despite this presumed laziness, though, Abra are actually quite strong Psychic-types. The Psi Pokémon is capable of telekinesis, telepathy and even teleportation, but because using these powers draw strain on the Abra’s brain, the Pokémon spends a majority of its life asleep and unconscious; while asleep, the inactive parts of its brain controlling its Psychic powers does not have to fight the portions that work when it is awake, and thus the Pokémon can use their abilities with less drawback. Scientists and psychic specialists believe this is because the Abra actually lives in a dream recreation of the world around it, suggesting reality as a dream for the Pokémon to interact with, and thus its body acts as it does in its dreams.
Of all its powers, Abra are most known for their teleportation. Very few species in the world are actually capable of this power, and the Psi Pokémon still manages to do this even as it sleeps. It uses this mostly defensively, avoiding confrontations of even non-volatile nature, blinking from spot to spot as though it were traveling; this does lead to Abra being quite scared when they wake up in a place that is not where they fell asleep before, feeling lost as they try to navigate the real world and parse it from their dreams. But even awake, teleportation and self-telekinesis are how this Pokémon gets around, constantly floating over the ground and disappearing instead of walking. Abra are known to rarely use their arms or legs for anything, leading to the species having quite weak muscles even into their evolved states of Kadabra and Alakazam.
