The PokéPoems Dex

In 1996, Game Freak released Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Green Version, a pair of compatible games that were to be the first video game entries into a universe known as Pokémon. These games, along with their third and fourth variants of Blue Version and Yellow Version, became one of the best-selling video games of all time, igniting a franchise that has lived on for decades and continues to grow and expand its own universe year after year. The Pokémon franchise explored and overtook other forms of media as well, developing several animation series, trading cards, comic volumes, various kinds of merchandise and spin-off video game series under the Pokémon name.
They are such a big franchise that in recent years they’ve been partnering with more and more creators worldwide to create music, shows, animations and more inspired by the series and their personal connections to it. Outside of these official partnerships, so too do many fans and consumers of their work create and share their own works of art, animation, music and even completely original video games series of their own inspired by the Pokemon series. This website is a gallery of my own work of and inspired by Pokémon.
This is a vault of all poems, artwork and biographical data I have created over the past few months, since early January 2026 until early June 2026, focusing on the basic stage forms of Pokémon from the first generation of games. This includes sixty-three different Pokémon all given their own treatment and themes, all covering various themes inspired by the PokéDex entries for each of them and translated to our own world; themes of individuality, growth, intimacy and emotions; political commentary, political satire and religious introspection; environmental protest and astrological fantasy; what ties these all together is the source in which I could create from without being beholden to their image and name. I have included the art and two paragraphs of biographical information made in the process of finding each poem’s topic, so that readers may be able to see the threads that connect them.
This does not include eleven originally basic-stage Pokémon that were given baby-stage forms in the years after their introduction in 1996, nor the Legendary-status members from the end of the first generation’s roster of Pokémon. This is solely about the first-stage standard Pokemon who have stayed that way for the past 30 years.

This Is A Personal Project

Pokémon has been in my life for just about 20 years, since my best friend to this day introduced me to little figurines, episodes of the original anime, and the trading cards I would soon see at school. It has since maintained itself in my life as my favorite media franchise of all time; as I collect nearly thirteen-thousand trading cards; every physical copy of the mainline and spin-off video games I can get my hands on; merchandise in the way of clothing, plushies, posters, figurines and even a blanket; but as much as I take in from the franchise, it has also been one of my many inspirations to give back.
Alongside other series I grew up liking as a kid (Power Rangers or Sonic the Hedgehog) and series I grew into as I got older (Dragon Ball, Percy Jackson and Bleach), Pokémon has inspired me to follow a path of media creation of my own. I drew my own original Pokémon creatures (FakeMon, as they’re called); I made stylized comics with friends in school based around the comics and mangas of the Pokémon Adventures series; and, combined with everything else I was into, led me to study for a degree in creative writing and art. To celebrate 30 years of this franchise and 20 years as a fan of it myself, I felt motivated to create poetry and art, inspired by and directly of respectively, of Pokémon from the first generation of games.
Here’s to 30 years more.
