Paras, the Mushroom Pokémon
“Paras are tiny bug Pokémon commonly found deep within dense forests. Many hives of Paras congregate at the base of trees, suckling juice from the trunks and burrowing beneath to take nutrients from the roots. They are mostly harmless to other people and Pokémon, as the mushrooms on their back interact more with the surrounding world. The set of fungi they carry douse their spores as the Paras travels, and in their wake grow harmless bunches of tochukaso mushrooms.”
“The only danger Paras pose are to their own species, because of the mushrooms on their back. Similar to the Bulbasaur and their bulbs, Paras are not born with these fungi on their backs. It is the role of parent Parasect to set spores into the soft hides of their newborns, which like the Bulbasaur will grow as the body does; but unlike the Seed Pokémon, the relationship between a Paras and its fungi is of an innocent and a parasite. The fungi in their system draws from the energy of a Paras, surviving off its host with an endless and threatening demand for more energy and sustenance, lest the Paras fall into a weakened state. As the Parasect evolution of the species, the fungi completely takes control of even the Pokémon’s brain, transforming into a living, conscious parasite with a goal to spread and grow more powerful. Though this is a horrific treatment to the Pokémon species mankind has yet to develop a solution for that can separate Paras from their fungi and still undergo evolution, because the fungi is attached during the process of evolution, the energy and sudden genetic change of the Paras into a Parasect also alters the capabilities of the fungi on the evolved Pokémon, only able to plant itself and reproduce within the body of new Paras; they are unable to spread spores in nature and have not evolved to grow within any other creature.”
