Meowth, the Scratch Cat Pokémon
“Meowth are simple yet fickle creatures. The Normal-type Meowth is a common house-pet Pokémon in most regions; though they are nocturnal creatures by nature, bathing in the sun’s rays that poke through the windows or that warm their porches, Meowth spend the night patrolling their domiciles chasing off any suspicious characters. But a Meowth is also easily distracted by any object with a bright-enough shine. Atop the head of the species is a golden coin each Meowth wears as a badge of pride and honor, and they constantly collect items that may shine as brightly or brighter than it as part of this fascination. Most often, Meowth just hoard coins more than any other item, and hide them from anyone, even their owners, who might try to even sneak a peek at the collection.”
“Meowth is also one of the only Pokémon we know to have more than one regional variant across the world. In Alola, the Dark-type Meowth are high-class animals. Generations being gifted to royal families overseas have led to this Pokémon acting more prideful and aggressive, more protective of their self image and their possession than their Normal-type variant; though, if pampered well enough by their owners, they are more willing to share in their riches with their trainer. In Galar, a tougher, rugged, Steel-type breed of Meowth were bred by war and a seafarring life among humans. They’ve grown beard-like tuffs of fur as tough as iron, and their claws have strengthened to match. Their coins, still gold atop the head of the Alolan Meowth too, are instead a blackened color, and the darker they are signify greater strength and respect among their kind.”
