Just The Way You Are

There is nothing wrong
There is nothing broken
There is nothing to fix

You watch as the rest of the flock soars
As they fall into formation
As they chase the sun and escape the winter

You flap, as your try, to follow
Stuttering the air for balance
Headstrong against the wind pushing the other way

That you ran as they did before
Wings outstretched to carry you into the sky
Is proof enough that you are as strong as they

Spearow, the Tiny Bird Pokémon

hand-drawn artwork

Spearow are the runt of the bird Pokémon across the Kanto region. Their population is not small, and they can be found in the region in many of the same places that Pidgey nest in as well. But despite being of similar size to the other Tiny Bird Pokémon, Spearow’s wings are not developed enough for long periods of flight, and they can only manage short bursts of time airborne before they must return to the ground; though they can fly faster than Pidgey, they can never cover as much ground in the air that the Pidgey can. The trade-off for this lack of air time is a stronger set of muscles in the Spearow’s legs, allowing them to traverse the ground faster than the Pidgey.
They are, too, a more aggressive and brave Pokémon than others, and they tend to group in sizable flocks wherever they go. When faced with any opponent larger than them, Spearow let out a rallying screech of a cry that not only aims to disorient their attacker but to alert the flock to their location, turning the balance of power and numbers in the battle in their favor. This is often how the Spearow mark and claim their territory, and has made the Pokémon line a famous choice for farmers to protect their land from wandering Bugs and other Pokémon that threaten their crops.
