Omanyte, the Spiral Pokémon
“Long ago, Omanyte used to live in the vast oceans of our world. They swam about twisting their tentacles to slowly drift through the water, and would shoot air stored between its shell and body for bursts of speed when need be. They survived off plankton found on the seafloor, and the Pokémon known to threaten them like Archeops all lived above sea level. Sadly they could not rely on their shells for proper protection, and they likely went extinct as a species long before the catastrophe suspected to have wiped out most life on the planet long ago.”
“In recent history, mankind has developed technology that can revive species such as the Omanyte from fossils excavated and preserved around the world, and the first successful reanimation of the species was reported in the labs of Cinnabar Island. We were able to learn much of this species’ biology and behavior in an isolated setting. But after months of reviving dozens of Omanyte to place in the city’s marine institute, the Omanyte broke out of their tanks and escaped the facility overnight, freeing several other species with them as they escaped offshore and disappeared into the sea. Many of the species have disappeared into the deep ocean water, but several have been found to congregate in the Galar region, at the region’s southmost territory just off the Frigid Sea. Several fossil species who have escaped captivity or were released into the wild willingly have come here, in fact, creating a pocket ecosystem of previously extinct Pokémon all living together that has helped researchers understand more of all these species’ behaviors from a time period long forgotten.”
