At the Door of Memories

How much do you remember?
How much did you forget?
How much do you cherish?
How much do you still regret?

Memories fade, in time
Recountance comes and goes
We celebrate our best moments
Regret our sourest woes

But what is it we forgot?
What moments were lost?
Were our worst days removed?
Were the happiest times tossed?

We get hung up on missing pieces
Recollect our days
We hold on to what remains
Assure it stays

Why do I only remember so little?
How much did I let go?
Is my mind protecting me from something in there?
Do I even want to know?

Psyduck, the Duck Pokémon

hand-drawn artwork

Psyduck are a species tormented by their own mind. Though they are capable of powerful psychokinesis and other Psychic powers, Psyduck do not use them willingly. Their bodies do not have the organs to control or process them as Psychic-type Pokémon do, and their brain cells are more dormant than most conscious creatures. It is these dormant cells that build and store the Psychic energy of the Psyduck, inducing headaches and even blackouts as they continue to grow, up until the energy explodes from their body and is used subconsciously by the Psyduck.
In this state, the Psyduck have no control over themselves or their powers. They are essentially in a dream-like state as the Psychic power takes over and enacts the order of their trainer or the Psydyck’s own desires. Once their power is drained, Psyduck will regain control of themselves but retain no memory of the actions that transpired in the release of their power. Sometimes, the Psyduck willingly gives in to their explosion of power, if only because the release alleviates the headaches brought on by their build up within their brains prior. This has led to a decline in the population of wild Psyduck, and today research continues to progress on a means of which to combat the Psyduck’s uncontrollable powers so they may not suffer their entire lives before evolution.
