My Heart is Not Here

I don’t think
I don’t care

The tide rides in
Waves rise high
They crash against my skin
Yet I do not roll away

I feel not the fire as it licks my skin
As flesh turns charred
As bone meets my sight
My mind only registers as vision

Air grows dense
Breathing heavy and shallow
I barely register it like a blanket
Resting, pleasantly

Is this a lack of fear?
Is this an absence for survival?

My shadow takes his time to arrive
Closing in as the day cuts in half
I feel nothing as it leave for the night
Knowing it will be back in the morning

Colors rush by, screeching and honking loud
I stand, and stare past them, catching as they streak by
My camera sits idly in my pocket
There are some photos that cannot live physically

The sun boils the air outside
Glares through the window, as I ignore invitation
He tries his best to burn through the walls
And I simply sit there and let him

I don’t think I don’t care
I don’t think it bothers me

I think I care
I think it’s just something else
Somewhere else
Pumping the blood in my heart

Slowpoke, the Dopey Pokémon

hand-drawn artwork

Slowpoke are one of the laziest Pokémon you will ever meet. Unlike the Abra who sleeps most of its life, or the Snorlax who swaps between eating and sleeping as its only two activities, Slowpoke spend their life awake and simply existing. You can find them sitting around in the wild, almost completely unresponsive to your presence until it registers in their brain minutes later. You can find them by rivers, dipping their tails into the water to use the sweet taste of their tails to catch fish; only the Slowpoke forgets why it was there in the first place, and will often not know when its tail has been bit before it is too late. We do not know what goes on inside a Slowpoke’s head, or how it survives on its own in a world it seems to process by a twelve-hour delay. The same can be said of the Slowpoke in Galar, who swap their Water typing, secondary to their Psychic, for Poison once they evolve into Galarian Slowbro or Slowking. These Slowpoke found on the Isle of Armor are just as non-present in the world as their counterpart.
The only difference between these species besides their typings are their tails. The average Slowpoke seeps a sweet aroma from their tails, and are considered a delicacy in the food world that it once went from being a poached pandemic to a luxury ingredient constantly on the standard market. As Slowpoke can regrow their tails quite quickly and without feeling pain in the process if done right, Slowpoke farms have popped up across the world taking care of this absentminded species and harvesting their tails in return. On the other hand, Galarian Slowpoke tails are actually quite spicy, offered more as a seasoning to meals than a food itself, and which scare off fish when the Dopey Pokémon attempts to fish with it instead of drawing them in.
