Weedle, the Hairy Bug Pokémon
“Weedle are the Kanto region’s counterpart to the docile species of the Caterpie. Where the latter is evasive and careful in nature, Weedle are aggressive against their attackers. Atop the head of each newborn of the Hairy Bug Pokémon is a sharp stinger a sixth of its body’s length, thinly coated in a very dangerous poison to most living things that are not Poison-type or poison immune Pokémon. Where a Caterpie attempts to hide in the trees to blend in with the leaves, a Weedle digs shallowly into the forest floor to find a position where their stingers can point upright to catch unaware people and Pokémon off guard. Many warning signs are put up by local police around forests where they are known to nest, to inform passing people and trainers of the dangers they may face.”
“Like the Caterpie, though, Weedle do have massive appetites. Though harder to train as a domesticated Pokémon, the species does have a similar ease of growth and evolution to match its counterpart, and as a wild species this is indicated by their even greater appetite for a thousand leaves every day. But Weedle are far pickier eaters than the Caterpie, requiring the leaves of specific flora to appease their stomachs; certain Pokémon foods have been developed to match these most known flavors the Weedle species prefers. If they cannot rely on man-made food, though, the Weedle species do have an evolved sense of smell specifically for this case, able to parse the aroma of plants from one another and find those that they would prefer to eat.”
